What are the chances you know Tire Speed?

This Spinning Tire phenomenon occurs with any open axle (no traction control). We called this "The One Wheel Peel" when we were too poor to have a car with a locker. Spinning outer ends exists on trucks today without lockers or ATC. Only the interaxle. Tractors are STD with ATC unless it's spec'd with the deactivate switch. We do recommend this switch with lockers because the two can fight each other. Result, dissatisfied driver.

Example: Single Drive, speedometer (assuming the signal originates from the transmission tail shaft, and not the ABS sensor on the steer tire) indicates 10 MPH. One tire or dual on dry pavement, how fast is the the other is spinning? Activated spider gears, doubles the speed. 10 X 2 = 20 MPH. TKS Joel!

Tandem outer end. How many spider gears? Interaxle, fwd rear and rear rear. Same 10 MPH. Interaxle, 10 X 2 = 20 MPH and either of the two axles, so 20 X 2 = 40 MPH.

Tridem, rear rear rear axle. 10 X 2 = 20 X 2 = 40 X 2 = 80 MPH. Most truck tires rated for 75 MPH. The rear, rear, rear outer end axle speed can be dangerous and another spin out.

These can easily lead to a spin out/lack of lube failure and all are related to the drivers knowledge on how rear axles operate. Taught at CDL class? Can you imagine what else we teach in Z class?
