Front spring pins are available in two styles. A maintenance-free product using an elastomeric movement and a greaseable threaded product, utilizing an iron pin. Both are available with front ends rated under 14,600 lbs.

Elastomer is a polymer that displays rubber-like tendencies. When the pin assembly is used in over-the-road applications the product holds up very well with light weight front axles, and carries the side benefit of never requiring grease.

Iron spring pins are required with front ends rated over 13,200 lbs. This is the traditional threaded style and does require routine maintenance. It is definitely the most durable product and some customers will prefer it. Both products work well with light weight springs.

If you find yourself changing over-the-road customers from a maintenance-free elastomer pin into an iron pin be certain the to note that the technicians need to modify their maintenance procedures. If not greased at all times the pin will seize, resulting in a broken spring eye.
