UltraShift Plus transmissions have Automated Manual (AMT) functionality.

This means there is no clutch pedal. The transmission is shifted into drive to take off and after that, if you maintain drive, the electronics do all of the shifting based upon pre-programmed settings. Its quite impressive, and I am certain that any who have been to the Eaton proving grounds will agree. There is an option to control shifting in manual mode.
This is not your daddy’s UltraShift or Autoshift (which used a clutch to start). Today's products have been fine tuned to meet the needs of different applications and do a great job when specified correctly.
The 3 letters at the end of the name indicate the service the product is designed for. The products are different, and a software change will not convert a product to cover up a mistake. You need to pick the correct version from the inception.
Contact your local Eaton representative to determine if the LAS is acceptable for a non-linehaul STOCK truck. If a customer runs into issues because the transmission was misrepresented, Eaton could cancel the warranty.
If you ordered an LAS in the wrong application, or if the customer changed his haul, there was buzz about reprogramming to VAS transmissions… but it was cost prohibitive. The VCS, MHP, VHP, MXP VMS, and VXP’s are stand alone and cannot be reprogrammed.
LAS has a 5-year/750K mile warranty for linehaul only. VAS has a 3-year/350K mile warranty for regional and minor off-road applications such as a bottom dump or end dump.
