Transmissions and SUPERsloooww operation.

Typically, a 9ALL transmission is used for pouring curbs, a mixer application. It is the only transmission that is geared low enough to creep along and get the job done. Certainly, there are more applications for this transmission, and some people automatically select it on dump trucks. In most cases we caution against this, recommending the 8LL as a better choice for dump applications. Let’s examine the differences
9ALL:
Low gear = 26.08
Low 1 = 16.30
Low 2 = 11.85. (3 total)
1st Gear = 7.41 (8 total)
Top Gear: OD = .73
3 reverse gears: LL= 20.85
Speed Example: With a rear axle ratio of 3.25 approximate speed is .93 mph at idle (700 rpm) with standard profile 22.5 tires
8LL: Low gear = 14.56 Low = 9.42 (2 total)
1st gear = 6.24 (8 total)
Top Gear: OD = .74
3 reverse gears: LL= 15.22
Speed Example: With a rear axle ratio of 3.25 approximate speed is 1.66 mph at idle (700 rpm) with standard profile 22.5 tires
With this in mind the 9ALL has TWO distinct advantages, low gear in forward AND low gear in reverse. Since some dump operations, such as asphalt milling OR work in reverse, the 9ALL would be the best choice for those applications. Look at your customers total operation needs and chose which transmission fits the wide variety of conditions they might find themselves in.
And now…
Believe It OR Not
The US Interstate road system was designed so that one mile in every five must be straight. These straight sections are usable as airstrips in times of war or other emergencies.
