Transfer Dumps

This operation requires controls outside of the cab to transfer the box from the pup to the truck. Those controls are often referred to as a Start/Bump Kill switch. The feasibility of this operation is predicated upon transmissions ability to support the operation.

This functionality does not work with an  Endurant® 12-spd trans, even though your Eaton®  Rep “could” say differently.  This transmission is designed to ONLY shut the engine down when the transmission in neutral.

(This is their auto neutral, that you’ve seen spec’d on Allison® transmissions).

A body builder tried a setup where you set the parking brake while in reverse, and then go to back to push a “deadman” momentary brake release to allow the vehicle to backup – but the transmission will “time out” after 4 -5 seconds and go to Neutral.  In essence, it won’t work as intended, and is not recommended.

This combination is controlled by engineering for trucks delivered out of the factory, but we need to watch out for used trucks. Truly this transmission was never designed for this application, but people are clever, especially when it comes to mods on a used truck.

Keep your eyes open.
