Tire Pressure

Tire Pressure is HUGH, especially on steer tires. I am fairly confident outside companies that mount the tires for the factories do not air the tires per the advertised pressure. Most likely they use some pre-determined pressure, like 100 - 105 PSI, across the board. If you look at a tire OE chart the Pressure is tied to the Load Rating. This can vary from 105 to 130 PSI.

On new trucks you might ask the PDI folk to correctly adjust the pressure, or at the very least inform the customer. Many times, tire wear is tied to improper inflation pressure. An accurate definition of under inflated tire is when a tire is found to be 10 PSI below the target pressure. After all, it is the air pressure that supports the weight, not the tire.
Tire wear is undeniably a cost of doing business, but it is somewhat controllable. There are products in the aftermarket, such as Halo or TPMS, that can assist. The products have levels of complexity. Do the research and select the right product for your operation. If that product is manual checks… use a gauge, not a bat.
