Fan hubs

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

2-speed fan hubs are GREAT for vocational applications. They operate at half speed all the time and kick-up to full speed when extra cooling is required. They also create less dust while operating at half speed when driving or idling on an unpaved surface.

Do not order this product on sleeper trucks for improved fuel economy. This is especially true if you occupy the unit in cold climates and do not have an APU.

Horton has a document on how to modify a 2-speed fan hub to on/off style to help resolve a number of over-cooling issues in winter operation.

If you do not have it, give Gary a call (816-500-3225).

If you are designing a chassis to operate in a dirty(course dirt/agriculture/mulch) environment, you might consider a reversible fan.  The fan does not change spin direction, it rotates the fan blades 180 degrees and turns the fans from a puller to a pusher, effectively clearing the radiators.  Reversible fans can reduce maintenance and related downtime—as well as help avoid the potentially costly consequences of overheating—by periodically directing a reverse blast through radiators, oil coolers, air-conditioner condensers, and intake screens to purge debris. They carry a trade-off, by not being as efficient as sucker fans, limiting their practical use to heavy debris environments.

Some manufactures are Cleanfix, Phillips & Temro, Flexxaire. This is an aftermarket mod.
